HISTORY OF THE BOXER

A Boxer is a good sized dog. Reliable and dependable, extremely protective and loyal. They are good with children, and I like to call them the Gentle Giants of the dog world. With their Big, happy, but watery eyes, and continous sad faces, it gives them, distinct features that make you love them more. As to quote a person that I once spoke to, they said "They are so ugly they are beautiful".

The breed originated from Germany during the 1800's and were bred for bear baiting. With the boxers strength and the agility of a cat, he would have made a worthy opponent.

The modern boxer has no past traits of the original breed, however, he still maintains his strength to this day.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A BOXER PUPPY.

Well right now, if your concidering buying a boxer, I will warn you now. Don't expect great joy out of your puppy until he reaches 10 months old. Now you are probably wondering why I say this, So I will explain:

A Boxer is not that bright, and it will take him a while to get the gist of things. At first, when you bring him home, he will seem adorable and sweet. Yet a few months later, you will not believe what you have let yourself in for. Boxers have a good ability of fooling you that they have cracked something eg lets take toilet training for an example, You think they have it, and then out of the blue, leave you a little present in the middle of your carpet. They also have this thing about testing their strength, and I find that if I leave the room, I usually have to put the seat cushions back on the chairs. Why they do it, I really don't know, except I believe that they are naturally curious and Don't be suprised if they don't like rain either - gardens can become out of bounds when it is raining, why, I havn't got the answer to this one.

What I can guarentee you, is after 10 months old all their mistermeners dissapear. Boxers are not naturally distructive, yet in their early months they like to chew. Always expect the unexpected. My new pup loves to scatter things. Rabbit food, plant pots in the garden, a chosen calender taken from a box in the garage, chewed up into lots of bits and then carefully scattered around. It amazes me on how versitile he can be. Now I can see you all thinking "maybe il get another breed of dog" I would advice you NOT TO!!!

One day around the 10th month everything clicks into place with the Boxer. He will suddenly display amazing signs of knowing what is right and wrong. From this point they are a joy to have. My eldest Boxer who is 5 now, was a horror as a pup. I was at my wits end, when, as if by magic he turned into a wonderful animal. As a pup he had managed to chew up many pairs of shoes, clothes, a couch, a bed and just about anything else that had been left around. Toilet training was a problem, and if he was going to have an accident it would be guarenteed that he would do it on the day that I was expecting visitors, and I couldn't hide it. This was about the 9th month and I was secretly thinking "THIS DOG HAS TO GO". Then overnight everything changed. Since that day my eldest dog has been absolutly wonderful. Protective, loyal, and I would go as far as saying, I would let my life depend on him.

bill I mentioned earlier a pup, Yep im a glutton for punishment. I got myself another Boxer. Ok time for introductions. This is Bill, and he is 4 months old right now. He is a handful. Full of mischief and fun. Teathing, and chewing paper and shoes. Doing everything he shouldn't. Although adorable to look at, he is a completely sterio type Boxer puppy. Just roll on the next 5 - 6 months.
